Dairy Free Probiotics

If probiotics are listed as a vegetarian, does that mean they are milk?
I can not have milk, but should take probiotics. The bottle says vegetarian capsules, but not for that probiotics from fermented milk products. Are they safe for me to do? Thank you.
Probably not, because vegetarians eat dairy products. I think if they said they were vegan, then that is the only way to ensure that products do not contain milk.
